The Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) vote will take place on August 19th Proposition #4 asks for initial funds for a START Bus Transit Facility. SPET is an optional sales tax paid by visitors and residents on all goods, other than food, purchased within Teton County that allows local government to provide community services and facilities that would otherwise be funded through bonds or an increased mill levy on property taxes. Welcome to Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit, which we like to call, START Bus. We work hard to offer a safe, convenient and affordable transportation system for residents and visitors to Teton County. We provide service from Jackson to and from Teton Village, Teton Valley and Star Valley, as well as a free shuttle around the Town of Jackson.
The START system is funded partially by the Town of Jackson, Teton County, and the Federal Government. It has been in operation since 1987, and was first implemented to be the skier's transportation from the town to Teton Village.
